What is a Chiropractor?
Did you know that chiropractic is more than just "cracking bones" and low back pain?
The internet has a lot of interesting things that pulls up when you look up
"What is a chiropractor?"
Chiropractic is defined as a licensed doctorate degree in the health care profession that emphasizes the body’s potential to heal itself.
What does that mean tho?
It means that chiropractors** don't just look at the point of pain and try to fix that. It means that we will look at the body as a whole. We don't want to know what is in pain, we want to know WHY it's in pain. What else in the body isn't communicating well and causing the body to express pain in this way.
A chiropractor is trained via a doctorate program, to make sure your body is functioning as optimally as possible. We do this by using spinal manipulations (known as "adjustments" that sometimes make the "poping" noise) to relieve pain in your joints, ligaments, organs and muscles. These spinal adjustments can increase blood flow as well as improve nerve conductivity to the joints and muscles that are experiencing pain.
But an adjustment isn't just for older people or for humans experiencing low back pain (or pain in general). A lot of my patience are actually coming in for MAINTENANCE CARE. But why? Well if you have a car, house, or relationships you place value on those and take care of them - EVEN if they aren't struggling. Anything that we place vallue on we tend to protect or check in with even before the check engine lights turn on. Your spine is really no different. Unfortuantely your spine tends to be overlooked because we often don’t even think about taking care of our health until it starts to malfunction. We don’t realize how much we use our backs until they start to cause us pain.Â
There are lots of benefits to maintenance care for chiropractic (we will talk about them in detail another time). To put it sompy tho, it promotes ongoing healing, can help prevent recurring injuries, can help avoid pain in the future, saves you money (better to keep people healthy than fix them after they're sick - or however that saying goes), and can help imrpove your overall health (and mood).
As always, if you have questions please don't hesitate to reach out or message me here or on my Instagram.
**Please understand that this is not ALL chiropractors (DC). Just like there are amazing MDs, teachers, engineers, etc, there are also rotten ones in those professions. The same can apply to chiropracors unfortunately. I hope that if you've had a bad experience with a DC that you won't let that forever ruin your belief in your bodies ability to HEAL. Please do your research and find a solid DC in your area who actually wants to see you heal and function better.
